Practical

 

The practical test will last approximately 40-45 minutes. You will need to show you can drive competently and safely in all kinds of driving situations. You will also be asked to complete 1 out of 3 manoeuvres.

 

Straight line reverse:- you will be asked to pull up on the right-hand side of the road, reverse for around 2 car lengths, and rejoin the traffic and drive on

 

Bay Parking:- you will be asked to park in a parking bay - either by driving in and reversing out, or reversing in and driving out (the examiner will tell you which you have to do)

 

Parallel Parking:- you will be asked to pull alongside a vehicle land reverse back in behind to park

 

In addition to one of the manoeuvres above, The emergency stop is done, but only 1 of 3 tests will be asked to do this.

 

You will also be required to complete an independent drive element, this will last up to 20 minutes following a route set out by the examiner, 4 out of 5 tests will use a Sat Nav and 1 out of 5 will be with instruction to follow road signs for a specific area.

To pass the practical test you will have to complete the test with no serious or dangerous faults and NO MORE than 15 driving faults (minor errors).

 

As part of the practical test you will need to demonstrate your ability to carry-out safety and maintenance checks of your vehicle. You will be asked two questions:-
